A community space is very much at the heart of the new Peach Barn Farm Shop project, and it has been set up over what used to be the test kitchen for Peach Pubs. It’s an intimate space which comfortably accommodated around 30 of us, with an area for the performers to do their thing. A bar had been set up downstairs so having grabbed our drinks, up we headed.

The project is the vision of Nick Miller. He’s been the mainstay of our own Honesty Shop and I'm full of admiration for what he is putting together, and hope the village embraces it. The evening started with Nick giving a brief introduction before launching into two piano pieces. Both were his own composition and they got the event off to an amazing start. Not only a great honesty shop creator but so talented on the keyboard!

What followed was a couple of hours of really mixed and impressive performances – Julia singing two lyrical pieces whilst accompanying herself on her guitar (words by Steeple's own Lord Byron, Carl Tomlinson), Jack on one of his 30 harmonicas (the boy can sing the blues!) and Helen on guitar and vocals. No valley cultural event would be complete without Carl reading some of his poetry. All in, it was an impressive line up. The highlight for me was Nick and Arthur Dale joining each other in an unrehearsed piano improvisation. It was brilliant.

There's no obligation to perform or that awful moment when audience participation looms and eye contact is avoided!
